Several different approaches are taken either independently or in combination in wind turbine site characterization. They include (1-D, 2-D, and 3-D) shear-wave velocity (Vs) profiling, side scattering analysis (SSA), and subsidiary results from the Vs profiling—including average and interval velocities (Vs’s) and a bedrock topography map. Then, a comprehensive analysis to detect voids and anomalies is usually taken as the final approach.
